Welcome to San Francisco Bay Area Gifted Homeschoolers (SFBAGHS).
We are a group of families homeschooling intellectually gifted children in the San Francisco Bay area. We share resources, organize real-life get-togethers, and serve as a local support network for families navigating the exciting and sometimes turbulent place where giftedness meets homeschooling.
We have a monthly gathering in Redwood City. Individual members organize various field trips, classes, and get-togethers. We maintain a Google Group that includes private Web pages and a mailing list; share a calendar; and share a member database.
We welcome San Francisco Bay area families who are interested in helping us create a thriving community of families with gifted children who learn at home, and who enjoy getting together with others. We prefer that we all know each other and favor a small group of local and involved members rather than a larger, less participatory group. If you would like to participate in our group, we require your full name, city of residence, and genders and birthdates of your children (month and year only) for our shared member database, and that you introduce yourself to our group through our email list.
Please note, our list is not an anonymous mailing list. It's the lively mailing list that goes along with our real-life group. Members are expected to organize something, contribute something, and be active members of the group, not just glean ideas from our list.
Monthly Gathering
We meet once a month in Redwood City from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. so that older children and teens can share what they are learning with their peers through computer-based presentations (PowerPoint or Keynote). Other kinds of presentations, such as sharing a story or poem they have written, are also possible. We share a brown bag lunch and kids can bring board games to play when the presentations are finished.
Upcoming gathering dates: May 16, Sept. 12, Oct. 24, Nov. 21, Dec. 19, 2008 (we break for summer).
